Hammerhead PMC+ Card

Quad Hammerhead ADSP-21160 SHARC DSP PMC+ Card

BittWare's Hammerhead-PMC+, is an industry standard PMC+ DSP card featuring four 100 MHz Analog Devices ADSP-21160 SHARC® DSPs and a 64-it, 66 MHz PCI interface. Fully compatible with any PMC-capable carrier board, the Hammerhead-PMC+ allows designers to add DSP capabilities to their single-board computers or additional processing power to their BittWare carrier boards without taking up an extra slot. When attached to one of BittWare's PMC+ capable carrier boards, it also supports BittWare's PMC+ extensions, which include link ports, a serial TDM bus, a reset line, and interrupts.

"Obviously, this product can be added on to our Hammerhead PCI and cPCI products to increase processing density, but that's just the beginning of the possibilities," said Jeffry Milrod, president of BittWare. "Because system designers can plug the Hammerhead-PMC+ board onto any PMC carrier board, they can use it to build highly integrated systems by adding a powerful DSP subsystem to the strengths of other vendors' carrier boards."

The Hammerhead-PMC+ - 2400 MFLOPs of ADSP-21160 Performance on PMC Card

The Hammerhead-PMC+ integrates Analog Devices ADSP-21160 SHARC DSP processing power with a 64-bit 66 MHz PCI interface, expansive memory options, a variety of I/O interfaces, and BittWare's SharcFIN ASIC technology - all on a single PMC card. The board features four ADSP-21160 SHARC DSPs, each providing 600 MFLOPs of processing power for a total of 2400 MFLOPs. I/O interfaces on the board include four external link ports, a 64-bit 66 MHz PCI interface, an RS-232 port, a JTAG emulation interface, and two external serial ports. For memory options, the board supports a 64-512 MB bank of SDRAM and a 2 MB bank of Flash memory.

Providing the backbone of the Hammerhead-PMC+'s architecture is a SharcFIN ASIC. The SharcFIN ASIC provides a comprehensive set of bus interfaces and peripherals for the ADSP-21160 DSPs and provides a clean, elegant board-level implementation. It integrates a full-featured SDRAM controller, a full 64-bit 66 MHz master PCI interface, a peripheral bus that interfaces the DSPs to peripherals such as the RS-232 UART and Flash, and an extensive flag and interrupt multiplexer.

Software Development Tools available from Sarsen Technology

A complete set of software development tools is available to support the Hammerhead-PMC+. BittWare's BittWorks DSP21k Toolkit allows users to easily develop application code and integrate the Hammerhead-PMC+ into their systems. Drivers are available for Windows 95/98/NT/2000 and Linux; a source code porting kit is also available. The board is fully compatible with Analog Devices' VisualDSP® and supports in-circuit emulation. It is also compatible with BittWare's SpeedDSP highly-optimized, C-callable runtime libraries, and with SDL's DSPdeveloper, interface to MathWorks MATLAB Simulink® and Real-Time Workshop®.
