For the last 40 years
VersaLogic has been designing rugged single board computer and embedded computer products for critical applications that place the highest value on reliability and long-life. They focus on industry-standard form factors such as PC/104 and COM Express which are available in standard (COTS), modified (MCOTS), and custom versions. One of their latest innovations is a rugged embedded server called
Grizzly.
When designing an application around a new server, it’s easy to head straight for Intel’s Xeon family, which has an established reputation for use in rack mount servers used in data centres. But it’s worth investigating Intel’s Atom processor series, the most recent of which is the C3000 family, also known as Denverton. The C3000 is a real step up from the previous C2000 family, with up to 2.3x more compute power.
The Grizzly embedded server board is fitted with the 16-core Atom C3958 Denverton processor, and is aimed specifically at embedded systems with applications ranging from smart-grid, and smart-city applications, to transportation, security, and defense operations.
This rugged embedded server supports -40°C to +85°C operation, two 10 Gigabit Ethernet SFP+ ports, and up to 128 GB of ECC memory. It is ideal for high performance/high data bandwidth applications. Two Mini PCIe sockets and an M.2 site provide for expansion and on-board storage.
The Grizzly is based on the
COM Express Extended form-factor, but it is delivered fully assembled and tested. For use in hostile environments, the Grizzly is designed and tested for full industrial temperature operation (-40° to +85°C) and meets MIL-STD-202H specifications for shock and vibration. The board supports most x86 server operating systems including Windows and Linux.
VersaLogic's 10+ year product life support ensures long-term availability. This long life cycle helps customers to avoid expensive upgrades, redesigns, and migrations that come from shorter lifecycle products.
