Double Density VITA 91 Switch

Double Density VITA 91 Switch

The new VITA 91 high density connector is changing how we think about space within our systems.

VITA.com Abstract: This standard, VITA 91.0 Connector for Higher Density VPX, provides a higher density and higher speed alternative connector to the one specified in the VITA 46.0 VPX Baseline Standard.

VITA 91 connectors provide a unique and robust open architecture solution for VITA 46 3U and 6U VPX chassis designs where space requirements and density are critical, by allowing for a completely switched backplane. This means that  instead of two switches chained together, all the slots are on the same non-blocking Ethernet switch, supporting a much more flexible, programmable expansion plane that is no longer defined by a fixed backplane PCB.

Annapolis has designed the rugged WILDSTAR™ 100GbE 3H20 3U OpenVPX Switch with a focus on performance and security, by using a Zynq UltraScale+ processor to support encrypted secure communication and logically separate data and control plane switches.

The 3H20 provides 6.4Tb/s switching between backplane slots of multiple channels of 100Gb Ethernet, Gen 4 PCIe and/or LVDS, and offers superior connectivity, with front panel I/O which can be used to connect the system to external data sources. The high density VITA 91 backplane connectors double the available density to up to 128 diff pairs of Ethernet.

Designed for use in harsh environments, the rugged 3H20 board is available in industrial temperature grades, via air, conduction or air-flow-through (AFT) cooling, and controls the System Management using Intelligent Platform Management Interface (IPMI).

For more information about the 3H20 or any of the products from Annapolis that utilise VITA 91 connectors please speak to one of our knowledgeable engineers.
