Its not very often I get the opportunity to head out and about away from the office, but I spent last week at DSEI 2023, where the Future Tech Hub was buzzing with cutting-edge developments in defence and security technology.
The Sarsen Technology stand was situated right in the thick of it, and I think it’s fair to say that DSEI 2023 has been our best experience at the event since we started exhibiting 20 years ago.
Unparalleled Expertise
This year we were joined by 9 representatives from our
manufacturing partners, and we showcased a truly impressive array of advanced technologies, demonstrating our unwavering commitment to driving progress in the defence and security industries. Our booth in the Future Tech Hub was a treasure trove of technology, with a wide range of products and solutions that gave attendees plenty to talk about.
Rugged Computing Solutions
One of the busiest areas of the stand exhibit was the
ECRIN Systems rugged mission systems tower. Bruno Le Goff was kept busy with attendees being drawn in by their MIL-STD-810 and DO-160 qualified SWaP-C COTS and Modified COTS multi-mission computers. These systems are designed to perform flawlessly in harsh environments, making them invaluable assets for military and defence applications.
Cutting Edge Graphics – NVIDIA Jetson ‘ORIN’ Demo
Ron Farine and Ken Sheth from
EIZO Rugged Solutions hosted a live demo that stopped people in their tracks, literally. As visitors walked past, the AI Object Detection & Tracking Demo which was showcasing the capability of the brand new
AGX-IOX Embedded 3U VPX SBC with NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin 64GB was running powerful AI models for object detection, body tracking, and semantic segmentation on live video feeds, all in in real-time. Seeing yourself on camera definitely makes you stop and look.
Advanced FPGA Solutions
Sarsen Technology is well known for its expertise in field-programmable gate arrays (FPGAs), and we were really pleased to have Bob Kirk and Noah Donaldson from
Annapolis Micro Systems join us this year. Their 3U & 6U FPGA baseboards, storage, 100GbE switches, direct RF, SOSA and VPX, ADC/DAC, chassis & backplanes were hugely popular with visitors to the stand. The cutting-edge processing power, versatility, and adaptability of the FPGA Ecosystem makes Annapolis an ideal solution for applications ranging from signal processing to cybersecurity.
Precision Timing Excellence:
This year was the first opportunity we had to introduce
Masterclock to our UK customers. John Clark and Steven Warner spent the week talking to people about their timing and frequency solutions, and offered some key insight into future technology innovations they are planning in the precision timing arena. Watch this space, 2024 is going to be very exciting for Masterclock!
1553 & ARINC Expertise
Another first for Sarsen, we had Harry Wild from
Alta Data Technologies join us at DSEI 2023. From MIL-STD-1553, ARINC and multi-protocol interface cards, Thunderbolt and USB appliances to their innovative real-time Ethernet and NLINE connectivity devices, Alta Data should be on everyone’s list when planning their next aerospace communications application.
Embedded Computing Solutions.
With an emphasis on small form factor and power efficiency, the SWaP embedded systems and SBCs from the clever bods at
VersaLogic are tailor-made for mission-critical applications where space and energy constraints are paramount. These systems are sure to find a wide range of applications in the defence sector, and with both the Sabertooth and the Grizzly on the stand we had plenty to offer visitors.
Conclusion
By the end of the week we were all sore, tired and ready for a cold beer, but the entire team's enthusiasm when engaging with attendees, answering questions, and providing insightful demonstrations made this year’s DSEI a real testament to the amazing people and technology we are lucky enough to work with.
Having experts from the manufacturers on the stand highlighted their commitment to ensuring that their technology is not just cutting-edge but also accessible and understandable to those in the defence and security community.
If this year’s show is any indication, Sarsen Technology and the product lines we represent are going to be absolutely fundamental to the future of defence technology.
