Choosing a company name is no small decision. It has to be memorable, easy to spell, sound good when said aloud and also have some meaning.
When Sarsen Technology was founded in 2000 a number of names were discussed, but nothing says strong, long lasting and enigmatic than the word 'Sarsen'. But why?
Nestled within the picturesque English countryside, and about 6 miles from our office in Marlborough, the village of Avebury is home to one of the most awe-inspiring and mysterious prehistoric sites in the world.
The Sarsen stones of Avebury are colossal sandstone blocks, some weighing over 40 tons. These monoliths were transported from the nearby Marlborough Downs, a remarkable feat considering the tools and technology available to the Neolithic people. These mighty stones, erected over 4,500 years ago, still inspire awe in everyone who sees them.
Avebury consists of a massive circular development with four entrances, and an inner circle of upright stones enclosing a further two stone circles, each with a central feature. A double avenue of stones leads away from the southern entrance.
The Sarsen stones at Avebury are not merely impressive in size; they also possess an undeniable mystical allure - it sounds a little crazy but I've been there and there's definitely a 'feeling'... Many believe that these stones were placed strategically to align with celestial events, serving as astronomical markers in a similar way to Stonehenge, which are also 'Sarsen' stones.
Visitors to Avebury have the opportunity to explore the stone circles, touch the weathered surfaces of the Sarsen stones, and immerse themselves in the captivating history they hold.
