What is a 100 Gigabit Ethernet Switch?

100 Gigabit Ethernet (100GbE) is a standard that enables the transfer of data at 100 gigabits per second (gp/s). 100GbE is becoming an essential building block for high bandwidth applications like financial trading, high performance computing (HPC), cyber security, and utilities management. This technology offers significantly higher speeds than both 40 and 10 Gigabit Ethernet. The rate of adoption for 100GbE is growing quickly, with customers looking to take advantage of the reduction in price driven by both volume and competition.  

 
100 GbE Switches from Annapolis

WILDSTAR™ OpenVPX FPGA embedded Switch boards are an important part of the Annapolis WILD40/100 EcoSystem™. They allow non-blocking switching between backplane slots of multiple channels of 100Gb Ethernet. They also have front panel IO which can be used to connect the system to external data sources.

Annapolis developed and manufactures 3U VPX (WP3E10) and 6U VPX (WP6E10) versions of the next-generation WILDSTAR Switch.
 
Based on Mellanox Spectrum® silicon, each switch delivers industry-leading, true cut through latency, with up to 6.4 Tb/s of switching between backplane slots of multiple channels of 100Gb Ethernet. They also have dense front panel I/O to connect to external data sources. WP6E10 has optional VITA 66.5 optical backplane connectivity.
 
The WILDSTAR 100GbE 6E10 6U OpenVPX Switch is a rugged 6U board that provides switching between backplane slots of multiple channels of 100Gb Ethernet. It also has front panel I/O which can be used to connect the system to external data sources.
 
If you need something smaller, the 3U 3E10 OpenVPX switch features up to 8 40/100Gb Ethernet ports or 32 1/10/25 Gb Ethernet ports. Both boards are available in industrial temperature grades, via air, conduction or liquid cooling.
